Notorious Troublemaker Ejected From Pow Wow

It's a joke, people! Lisa Brown, was among the last to leave after the Restoration Pow Wow at Chinook Winds. -- Photo by Alma "Elmo" Garza.

Details are sketchy, but reports are circulating that tribal gadfly Lisa Brown had to be forcibly removed from the premises during the Pow Wow last weekend. Apparently she was asking (AGAIN!!!) for tribal members to be granted greater access to financial data.

Like THAT might happen...

Hey - good joke ! Funny!! Thanks to husband of Lynette Warren

Just to clarify - to folks who read this.... it's a "joke" !! or a sample of the facetious humor, by the husband of Lynette Warren, John Kennedy.

I seem to recall, that Lillie Butler, made mention to Lynette and John, about posts on siletz.net....

That we needed to put more "positive" info out there.....

Well, my impression, is that so much of the subject matter involved dire straits, that it is difficult
to "make light" of the losses, hardships or issues that involve negative consequences.

So, this post... which is actually a picture, taken by one of the artists' of my Bead Artist Co-op,
Alma Garza....

Lynette was visiting from Nevada, for almost two weeks, and she had helped with the booth sales... so after we had finished packing up the booth, we decided on a photo to remember the event.

The joke was that, me being such a hard worker, and the "queen bee" of the bead hive, Lynette
being the "new" girl on the block, was to "push" me and the cart out to unload.... just a little
light humor. [BITE: To those of you who are aware that the "new" girl, Lynette is running for Tribal Council... she plans to MOVE to Newport, if elected. Also FYI: Lynette is actually the 2nd cousin to Delores Pigsley]

... till John got a hold of the picture... there will be more to come.

Restoration was and is a good celebration. Only drawback was the smoke, and scheduling that required folks to wait, and wait, and wait... between lunch and the powwow.

Many folks wish for a powwow on the ground... close to the spirit of our Earth mother. I agree.

Thanks to everyone for your time, that it took to make this event possible. I hope for a time next year, when we can take feedback, and implement adjustments to make this event more easy to accommodate the needs of those in need.

As ever,

Notorious troublemaker is a

Notorious troublemaker is a great title for Lisa Brown. Lisa was not raised in Siletz, but came here later. I didn't know too much about her and her family. One thing I know for a fact that she likes to start trouble. I worked at Chinook Winds for a couple of years and I see how some of the tribal members act there. Chinook Winds Casino is a business, we are there to make money, not putting up with some the tribal members bad behavior. I understand that Lisa is talking bad about my son that works at the casino. There is always two sides of a story. You would not make a good tribal council person when you only listen to one side.

I welcome the opportunity to communicate with you

I am known for "calling a spade a spade", and making mention of barriers, or situations that might lead to less than favorable outcomes.

If you want to call this "talking bad", then I guess I am guilty. I mentioned, early on, before we got into the RRG predicament, that Ross Bennett did NOT possess the permits to pull the logs out of the Columbia River. I questioned the intended decision of our Tribal Council to invest in this endeavor. Some folks would like to have said, that when I went before the Tribal Council and insisted they refrain from entering into business with this person, that I was "talking bad" to/about them [Tribal Council & Ross Bennett].

Contrary to the truth, we could have avoided who knows how much in legal fees and time, in regards to this endeavor. But we may never know the cost that was imposed on our Tribe for this error in judgement, because our Tribal Council refuses to allow the members to view the attorney bills, where they identify what/who their hours are allocated towards in regards to the legal representation provided, usually at $350.00 an hour.

I welcome your comments, and I will reply. I wonder, are you say your son, would that be Sar Richards? If so, this would be Adelle Richards, and I recall speaking with you at a previous Tribal council meeting, and also providing you and your sister, Divonna with hard copies of materials regarding Tribal expenditures, for which you were appreciative.

I can tell you honestly, that I have and do comment, about Sar [to his face actually], that it may be less than likely that he would be able to free up and make time to attend to the duties necessary to fully serve the needs of the members, and obligations of an efficient and ethical Tribal Council Representative AND attend to the unmet needs of the casino workers and administrative needs.

Not to mention, that I believe it is ethically, and logistically, a conflict of interest to hold a full-time position with a Tribal/Chinook Winds enterprise. Constitutionally, it may be another matter, but if we were to review the past performance and time constraints, in regards to Tribal members, who are both employees AND Council members, we would see they are absent from their jobs quite a bit of time, and this is NOT providing the services as initially intended, to the membership.

subject clarification

Lisa,

I do not believe the poster is talking about me.

Sar

Thank Goodness

Your letter is great! Lisa spends all of her time making waves! I think she needs to get a job so she can occupy her time in a more constructive manner. Funny, tho, she doesn't tell ALL the info....like why she got fired from Chinook Winds LOL

troublemaker

Lisa you are twisting everything around of what I wrote. (whats new) My son, how many letters have you written to certain tribal council complaining about a young man that works at chinook winds that could be anyone's son, but he is mine. I don't appreciate the lies that you are telling. Your sources are not reliable anyway. Like I said before, you would not make a great tribal council member when you don't get the real facts. I could tell a whole lot about you and your sons. Would you like that?

I have NOT wrote any letters about someone's son... at CW

I appreciate the reply by Sar Richards, and his willingness to identify himself, as I had spoke to him directly. Any chance you would do so also? If not publically on this forum, then in private. I can keep trying to guess... which is what is logical.

My response: I didn't talk "bad" about anybodies "son" who works at the casino, nor did I write a letter or letter(s). I do know some Tribal members who have "male children" who work at the casino. One such person is Joella Strong, who has a son, Corey Kline who works at the casino. He has worked there quite a few years, and is in a mid-level, if not high management position. I have not "talked bad" about Corey. Although there are some employees who have opinions, both good, bad and neutral.

It is my opinion that a lot of the employees who have a "neutral" opinion, have become apathetic, they have given up hope on having a workplace that is respectful, and fosters positive mental/spiritual and physically healthy policies/procedures. I voice this opinion, based on my experience, while I worked at the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and was training to be a Personnel Officer.

So just for the record, if "Rainydaz13" is the mother of Corey - I did not "talk bad" about him. I did speak directly to him, as I usually do when I see him at the casino. I gave him my number, I've even e-mailed him information. Communication is a two-way process. That is why I am posting here now.

As for folks "telling".... it is best to NOT keep secrets. I know that I am not responsible for what my adult children do. Although I am direct with them, and do not support actions that generate negative consequences. I know what negative consequences are, and I have worked very hard to look ahead, at actions I make, and to make better choices.

There are a lot of people who made poor choices. Some of them don't make those choices anymore. Some people still make the same choices and have the same results.

Many of the situations that have had unfavorable outcomes for our people have involved excessive use of alcohol, or using illicit drugs, or abusing prescription drugs, or other addictions, such as gambling ... food.. smoking.

Lots of things can be addictive, even relationships. Many families in our Tribe have suffered immense pain, and loss because of vengeful and hateful actions, be they verbal or physical. The harm is seen in the eyes of the children who are present to hear these words and watch this happen.

So I chose to learn about physical and verbal abuse, which includes addictions (tobacco/alcohol and gambling/food, etc), plus the effect of generational trauma and violence that happened to the earlier generations in my/our Tribe. I believe communication or dialogue, such as this website, is one way to talk about things, and identify solutions.

I have worked hard to learn how to make better choices, and one of the ways I learned that, was by taking a hard and honest look at the mistakes I made. I try to be honest with others, who are facing the same struggles. I try to suggest solutions.

But suggesting solutions requires looking at problems that exist, be they financial or professional. In order to make things better we need to talk to the people, and look at how they have been treated, and suggest alternatives.

I thank you "Rainydaz13" for your comments, I hope you will call me so we can talk in person. As you know, my number is listed in the book.

Our community is a very small one. I was somewhat perplexed when I went to the bank yesterday, and opened the door for one of our Tribal elders, Wilma Strong, and she was not as amicable [characterized by or showing goodwill; friendly; peaceable], as usual.

Now as time has passed, I may know the reason. I plan to call her or stop by to visit again in the future. I only wish for a better future for all the people of our Tribe.
